Cavanal Hill Limited Duration Fund Quarterly Commentary

2Q 2024

Market Overview

Markets continue to price out anticipated Federal Reserve rate cuts in 2024, with expectations dropping to just two cuts by the end of the second quarter. Yields were largely unchanged during the quarter, as investors appear confident inflation will be subdued going forward. Meanwhile, consumer spending has weakened along with leading economic indicators. The yield curve remains inverted inside of 10 years. Credit spreads are tight across fixed income sectors. However, near-term catalysts for widening are scarce. This leaves it too expensive to add exposure to credit, yet too early to reduce it.

Positioning the Fund

Portfolio composition is subject to change

The Fund remains overweight asset-backed securities as yields remain very attractive on the short end. We have a mild underweight to corporate bonds. Corporate spreads are close to their tightest levels, but there appear to be few near-term catalysts for spread widening. The Fund increased its weight to agency mortgage-backed securities, as spreads still appear attractive on a historical basis.

Why should investors consider investing in this fund?

Expected returns remain higher than they have been in many years. With economic growth slowing and an aggressive Federal Reserve working to bring inflation down, high quality fixed income should be an attractive asset class in our view. The inverted yield curve has produced attractive offerings among shorter-term bonds. These large relative yields have reduced the need for investors to take duration risk.

Investment Risks

Fixed income securities are subject to interest rate risks. The principal value of a bond falls when interest rates rise and rise when interest rates fall. During periods of rising interest rates, the value of a bond investment is at greater risk than during periods of stable or falling rates. Bond funds will tend to experience smaller fluctuations in value than stock funds. However, investors in any bond fund should anticipate fluctuations in prices, especially for longer-term issues and in environments of changing interest rates.
